Why plan an elopement or micro wedding?

Planning an elopement or micro wedding is the perfect option for couples who, simply put, just want to get married already!

As wedding photographers, we’ve always had a soft spot for elopements and micro weddings. Here are just a few great reasons to consider an elopement for your special day:

1. Enjoy total flexibility (and amazing locations!)

Planning an elopement means you can literally do whatever you want, wherever you want, without being restricted by guest numbers, financial stress or travel logistics. You’ll have the freedom to focus on what’s really important to you and your partner, and design a totally custom experience in an amazing location on any day of the week.

2. Cherish the experience

Elopements and micro weddings strip everything back to what this day is ultimately all about - you and your favourite person, exchanging vows, and making a lifelong commitment to each other. There’s something pretty special about sharing that experience with just the two of you, or a handful of your closest loved ones.

3. Save money on your wedding

An elopement or micro wedding is much friendlier on your wallet! Without a large guest list to cater for, you can really maximise your budget and splurge on the details that matter most. Getting married on a weekday (Monday to Thursday) will more often than not save you a little as well.

4. Be present in the moment

Small weddings and elopements are generally less overwhelming than a traditional celebration. You don’t need to worry about coordinating guests, following a strict timeline or trying to mingle with everyone throughout the day - you can be totally present in each moment, without any of the stress.

5. There are no rules

The perfect elopement or micro wedding will look different for each couple, but can be as simple or extravagant as you like. You can exchange your vows barefoot on a secluded beach, on a rugged cliff overlooking the ocean, or at a luxurious private property. Enjoy a leisurely long lunch, a sunset photography session, or an intimate dinner under the stars. Incorporate traditional wedding elements like flowers, dancing and cake, or don’t - there are no rules!
