6 Reasons Why Engagement Sessions are a Good Idea

Newly engaged and wondering whether or not you should book an engagement session? We may be a little biased, but we genuinely think engagement sessions are the best place to start as you plan your wedding day!

From calming your nerves to testing your hair and makeup, keep reading for 5 reasons why engagement sessions are such a good idea (and our tips for making the most out of them).

1. Get comfortable in front of the camera

It’s completely normal to feel nervous about getting in front of the camera, especially if you’ve never been professionally photographed before. With this in mind, booking an engagement session provides the perfect opportunity to get some practice in before the big day!

In our experience, engagement sessions help our couples feel much more confident and comfortable in front of the camera on their wedding day, because they know exactly what to expect. Trust us - once you’ve had a chance to get used to the experience, you’ll be amazed at how relaxed you can feel.

2. Meet your photographer

Your wedding photographer will play a big role on your wedding day, which makes engagement sessions the best opportunity to hang out with them and form a connection! During your engagement session, you and your photographer will get to know each other’s personalities and share a few laughs to capture the most natural and candid photos possible. Building this rapport before the day means you’ll have a friendly face to calm your nerves and help you relax for your wedding portraits.

3. Repurpose your engagement photos

Once you’ve received your engagement photos, there are so many beautiful ways to incorporate them into your wedding! As well as posting them on the ‘gram, your favourite engagement snaps can be used to add a personal touch to your save the date cards, wedding website, guest book and more.

4. Utilise your hair and makeup trial

If you’re planning a hair and makeup trial before your wedding day, we’d highly recommend booking this on the same day as your engagement shoot. Not only will you have flawless makeup for your photos, it also gives you the opportunity to see how it photographs before the day.

5. Take advantage of different locations

From the Tweed Coast to Brisbane and Byron Bay, we’re lucky enough to have some epic photo backdrops at our fingertips! By booking an engagement session, you have the flexibility to choose a completely different location to your wedding venue, giving you a wider variety of photos. For example: if you’re planning a hinterland wedding, you might want to consider a coastal location for your engagement shoot to get the best of both worlds.

6. Enjoy them forever!

Finally, sometimes it’s just nice to have some beautiful professional photos of you both as a couple - especially when you’re in that engagement love bubble. It’s not often that you’ll get to experience this, so soak it all up and enjoy the moment!

If you’re looking for an engagement photographer on the Gold Coast, Tweed Coast, Brisbane, Byron Bay or beyond, we’d love to hear from you! Get in touch with our friendly team for more details.
